More about Bwlch y Geuffordd Gardens

This 3 acre wildlife garden is very ambitious. 30 years ago it was practically featureless, bleak, and windswept moorland at 1,000 feet. We have worked on the garden tirelessly ever since, and the enthusiastic pleasure of our visitors spurs us on to create something new for them every year. At the centre of the garden is a lake, full of fabulous water lilies, fed by a little stream that enters via the mouth of a large gargoyle. Diverse gardens surround the lake, on one side a pretty gazebo, and on the other a Spanish garden, another which has as a centrepiece, a long legged peacock made from copper and glass. Through a pergola, you come to an African jungle garden, and hut with grass roof, full of African musical instruments, African style carvings, and jungle plantings, then to an Oriental style garden, watched over by 2 Buddhas. There is a damp and shady garden, and a woodland. There is a temple and a labyrinth, there are various sculptures throughout the garden, mostly of wood, though other media have been used too, and plenty of seating. It is a fantasy and adventure garden for children, and the young at heart. There is a ½ scale steam engine we have built, a Willow Den, numerous musical instruments, a large cave and other surprises. For children interested in our bountiful pond life, we offer pond dipping. This really is a garden with something for everyone, yet without compromise. There is a huge range of plants for the plants people, with plenty of interest at every time of year, there is inspiration for both experienced and novice gardeners, and peace and tranquillity for the stressed. There is a shorter route for the less able which covers the main features. Although the individual gardens differ widely in character, they still hang together as a delicious whole. It's an appreciation of water, wood, and stone, an enthusiasm for plants and local wildlife. It's too big for us to keep particularly tidy, but it is peaceful, inspiring and colourful, quirky and wonderful, full of surprises, and a great day out for all the family. We have put an enormous amount of time and effort into the creation of this garden and we love to share it. It is a good idea to give us a ring the previous evening to check we’ll be in, but as we rarely go out anyway, we are very happy to welcome anybody who comes spontaneously. We also welcome school parties, when we charge £1 per head, whether child or adult.
