A Very Special Tea Party in Sussex
Wed 07 Jun 2017
Everything was set for a wonderful tea party in Geoff Stonebanks’s garden at Driftwood on the 6th June to celebrate both the National Garden Scheme’s 90th birthday as well as the birthdays of 7 Sussex residents who were 90 in 2017 too. Then the weather hit with the storm and gales over the 5th & 6th June. Geoff had to make last minute changes to the venue as his garden did not have enough space under cover for everyone to keep dry.
Two of his friends, Dave and Sheila Thomas, came up trumps and offered the log cabin in their garden in Lullington Close (a garden we hope will open for the scheme in 2018) . Geoff managed to contact all the invitees 24 hours ahead and all bar 1 was able to make the party. A great time was had by all with delicious afternoon tea of sandwiches, tea bread and fabulous birthday cake.
All the birthday boys and girls went away with a little goody bag, and the ladies in addition a small plant. It was very clear from the feedback they gave that it had been a very special day despite the wind and one they will remember. Country Organiser, Irene Eltringham-Willson led the group in a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday. “We did so enjoy it and you all worked so hard to make the party such a success” said Wendy after the event.
A big happy birthday to all of the party-goers from us at the National Garden Scheme.
