Llanover

nr Abergavenny

Stunning 15 acre garden laid out in C18. The Rhyd-y-Meirch stream creates sound and movement throughout the garden as it flows into ponds, through the round garden, over cascades and beneath flagstone bridges. Children can run on the lawns, play pooh-sticks along the stream and rills or hide and seek amongst the trees, particularly the numerous early flowering magnolias.

In addition to the spectacular herbaceous borders, the garden features unusual trees and shrubs planted by five generations of the family. The herbaceous borders in the Round Garden, designed by Mary Payne in 2009, are outstanding from July through to October, when they complement the autumn colour of the remarkable Acers, Nyssas, Caryas & Liquidambers planted by Robin Herbert VMH, a past President of the Royal Horticultural Society. Since 2013, Peter Hall, RHS Associate of Honour, formerly Head Gardener at Powis Castle, Stourhead and Dunham Massey, has been using his horticultural knowledge and experience to create a high standard of interest and presentation throughout the year. A glade dominated by various Hydrangea macrophylla and a Bog garden were rejuvenated in 2017. Plants of interest throughout the year. Home of Llanover Garden School. Featured in The RHS Garden magazine, Gardenista and Countrylife magazines.
