20 Taylor Avenue

Richmond

Situated near Kew Gardens, this is a very verdant garden with mature trees and shrubs, a small water feature attracting frogs and newts, a large pergola covered by a mature wisteria, a 'zen' inspired area and a recent professional re-design of the garden reclaiming the rear area from the (now grown up) children. This re-design involved re-shaping and new planting around existing planting.

The garden is accessed by an iron gate and a pathway by the side of the house. This side area is planted with fruit trees and herbs interspersed with a variety of other plants including roses, ferns, fuchsia and hydrangea. At the end of the path there is a small pond edged with ferns and grasses overhung by a Japanese acer and a large elderly pear tree through which grows a prolific rambling rose (Rosa banksiae lutea).

A mature wisteria winds round this side of the house starting from the back where it rests on a large pergola over the patio. There is a large lawn area and planting on both sides. On one side there is a ‘zen’ inspired space where paving stones and smaller stones have been arranged in a small circle and the area planted with acers and bamboo and under planted with peony and various low growing plants.

In the middle garden, there are mature shrubs extending into the lawn but still giving a view to the very back, including a large Tree peony, Magnolia and Daphne and recently planted with Myrtle, Phlomis russeliana and Ceratostigma.

The rear area of the garden is planted with mature trees and surrounded by trees from other gardens. The whole shape of this rear are recently been professionally re-designed and planted with Tree ferns, Magnolia grandiflora, Choisya and other woodland plants which enjoy more shady spaces.
