The Orchard is the home to Mark Lane, the UK's first wheelchair-bound garden designer, published gardening writer and BBC TV Presenter, and his civil partner Jasen. Mark is a presenter for BBC Gardeners' World and also presents for the RHS Flower Shows. The acre garden has a number of different areas, including an herb garden, a blue and yellow border, a white garden, grass borders with a stepped granite water feature, roses and peonies, as well as a small orchard, lawn and the large colourful herbaceous borders around the swimming pool. Hidden from sight are the working areas, including an 8-bay composting area and a greenhouse and fruit cage. The garden is Mark’s playground for plant combinations, and is very much dictated by the flora and fauna of the area. Mark builds on integrated structures and the spaces between, in and around them, to create an ever-changing naturalistic sense of place and space.
