Charlbury Gardens

2 varied gardens in the centre of this large Cotswold village, in the context of traditional stone houses. Gothic House with ⅓ acre walled garden designed with sculpture and colour in mind. New area of planted squares replaces lawn. False perspective, pleached lime walk, trellis, terracotta containers. The Priory Garden has 1 acre of formal terraced topiary gardens with Italianate features. Foliage colour schemes, shrubs, parterres with fragrant plants, old roses, water features, sculpture and inscriptions aim to produce a poetic, wistful atmosphere. Arboretum of over 3 acres borders the R Evenlode and incl wildlife garden and pond.

Sunday 21 May (2 - 5pm). Combined admission £5.00, children free. Home-made teas in St Mary's Church. Also open Bolters Farm.
