Woodbury Cottage

Reigate

Cottage garden just under ¼ acre. It is stepped on a slope, enhanced by its setting under Colley Hill and the North Downs. We grow a colourful diversity of plants incl perennials, annuals and tender ones. A particular feature throughout the garden is the use of groups of pots containing unusual and interesting plants. The garden is colour themed and is still rich and vibrant in September.

Quarter acre garden on chalky clay, to be found at the foot of the North Downs in Surrey. The view is of the slopes and trees of Colley Hill, which is preserved by the National Trust. For many years we were busy working and raising children, so not able to devote too much time to
gardening, but we have spent the last two decades designing and building the garden ourselves. The result is in the style of a cottage garden, but has a more structured approach in regard to colour, texture and contour than is to be found in the truly traditional cottage garden. The layout is in two parts, divided by yew hedges and a pair of wooden gates, The bottom garden - we are on a steepish slope - has a stable with a brick stable yard where our youngest daughter kept a pony - this is now a pot garden. A small greenhouse surrounded by a gravel bed is also to be found here. Then a stepped path leads up the garden through deep borders and round an oval lawn towards the house and top garden. Here a terrace overlooks a square lawn, raised gravel bed, more borders and pond. We make use of a diverse range of trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals, tender plants, bulbs and pots, to ensure a long colourful and interesting gardening season. We grow just a few vegetables and maintain the garden ourselves and look forward to your visit!
