There are very few straight edges in this garden and only one level lawn - the old tennis court - now used as an imperfect croquet lawn. All the paths through the shrubbery and among the trees are curved so that as you walk you are continually being presented with a different vista. The Oak Pool - created by damming a small stream in 1976 - at the bottom of the garden benefits from the five magnificent 200 plus year old oak trees which you see as you walk on the paths that go right round it. The house stands at just over 1000 feet above sea level and the bottom of the garden is 750, making growing fruit a hazardous pursuit but the soil, overlying red sandstone is fertile and shrubs and trees grow well.
Not an ideal garden to visit on a windy day and only limited access for wheel chairs.

Features and Attractions

A very peaceful garden. Only one other dwelling is visible at a distance of half a mile - from part of the garden. Otherwise it is surrounded by pastureland with distant views of the Black Mountains.
