Alverton Cottage

Penzance

Alverton Cottage is a grade 2 listed Regency house. The garden is modest in size though large for a Penzance garden, S-facing and sheltered by mature trees incl elms. Very large monkey-puzzle tree and holm oak. Laid out in 1860s, we have added a succulent area, fernery and barefoot walk. In nearby Morrab Sub-tropical Gardens the 'Friends' will also welcome visitors.

Alverton Cottage is a grade 2 listed Regency house. The garden is modest in size though large for a Penzance garden. It is south facing and sheltered by mature trees including elms and beeches . We have a very large monkey-puzzle tree and a holm oak and other trees of interest. Maps of the 1860s show a similar layout to the present design. We have been here for 5 years and are still making improvements to what had become a garden somewhat overgrown by bay and myrtle. We have added a succulent area, a fernery, a barefoot walk, a wildlife pond and many shrubs. We will serve teas and there will be an exhibition of ceramic sculpture within the garden.
In the nearby Morrab Sub-tropical Gardens the 'Friends of Morrab Garden’ will also welcome visitors and will have plants for sale.
Both gardens are accessible via a short walk from the Penlee car park. Parking spaces can also be found nearby in Alexandra Rd and on Alverton Rd beyond the YMCA.
