4 Becondale Road

Norwood

This garden takes vertical planting to new heights - but is not for those who are afraid to walk a gangplank. It is packed with a mass of exotic and rich planting with a Mediterranean feel from Bougainvillea to bananas and palms to plumbago. Steeply sloping it maximises every bit of height with plants cascading over high rise balconies and dropping down to a theatrically styled well of a garden.

This is not a garden for those who suffer from vertigo. It takes vertical planting to new heights – and it is also not for those who are not afraid to walk a narrow gangplank across a pond. On the plus side it is a garden packed with a mass of exotic and rich planting with a Mediterranean feel from Bougainvillea to bananas and palms to plumbago - and that despite being greatly in the shade of an extremely tall Scots pine.
It is a small, steeply sloping, town garden, 5m across by about 10m deep but it more than makes up for its lack of size by maximising every bit of height with climbers on four levels, and plants cascading over high rise balconies, the whole dropping down into a well of a garden adorned with pots in a almost theatrical setting.
