The Walled Garden at Tilgate Park

Crawley

There is much more to know about the award-winning Tilgate Park than is realised on a family visit. Why not join a tour with Park Manager, Nick Hagon to discover more about this special environment? In spring learn about the azaleas, camellias, primulas and rhododendrons, and in July the walled garden and the specimen trees planted centuries ago. Talk and tour begins at 7pm, near the Walled Garden.

This Green Flag Award parkland has much horticultural and arboricultural interest to offer, yet so little is known to the busy people who visit with children and enjoy the space. Nick Hagon has known the park for nearly fifty years. He will convey his enthusiasm and knowledge of the specimen trees and collections during your visit. Nick also has a wealth of knowledge about the park and its history.
These two evening visits each with a talk and tour, plus tea, biscuits and cake, give an opportunity to hear more about the important tree and shrub collections plus the history of the Park. For the spring event you will visit the candelabra primulas, the azaleas, the camellias plus the rhododendron collection and walk through the woodland. In the July visit the tour will focus on the walled garden and some of the trees planted centuries ago in the woodland. The walled garden has a range of flower beds, small gardens and vegetables giving even more interest plus a chance to get lost in the maze. Join both visits and see the park change through two important seasons. Watch out for a possible pop up autumn colour event.
