2 Conway Road

Southgate

A passion, nurtured from childhood, for growing unusual plants has culminated in two contrasting gardens. The original, calming with lawn, pond and greenhouse, compliments the adjoining, Mediterranean terraced rooms with pergolas clothed in exotic climbers, vegetable beds and cordon fruit. Tumbling Achoqcha, figs, datura and Rosa banksiae mingle creating a horticultural adventure.

Plants are my passion and many have been grown from seed. For me plants represent people and places I have worked in: Araujia from Batignano, a standard Wisteria seen in Cardiff, Azalea Luteum in Luzern, Mimosa in Spain. Family and friends come in the form of Fuchsias, an unusual pineapple scented Philadelphus, a Cleodendrum and a fig to name but a few. When trying new plants I always seem tempted by climbers and fortunately I have a large pergola to display the many and varied forms. I aim to encourage wildlife as much as possible and succeed with a continual stream of bees of all shapes and sizes almost throughout the year. As well as plants I grow fruit and vegetables having bushes of several different coloured currants and a large loganberry. Recently I planted a collection of cordon fruit trees in lieu of a crab apple tree that sadly had to be removed. Indoors I have small collections of vivid Achimines, Streptocarpus and Kohleria with the occasional striking Begonia Rex and outrageous Cyrtanthus elatus (Scarborough lily).
