1 Elia Cottage

Ware

A garden forever changing to reflect the seasons, this year starting with one of our earliest flowers, the snowdrop. Approximately a third acre informal cottage garden with steep meandering paths on different levels, leading to stream with mini Monet-style bridge and pond beyond. Plenty of seats to rest upon, if it's not too chilly, but crumpets and teacakes available to warm up with.

If you are looking for a manicured formal garden then 1 Elia Cottage Garden is not for you. The garden is approx. a third of an acre. Here a variety of wild flowers compete with cottage garden flowers, clematis and roses including a 60' Paul's Himalayan musk rose. In early spring snowdrops and Helibores abound, followed by daffodils and chionodoxas. There is a mini Monet style bridge across the stream leading to a small pond and cascade. At the end of the garden a primrose path can be found. Summer sports a small wild flower area with moon daisies and corn cockles. There are plenty of seats but the garden is steep with narrow winding paths that are slippery in wet weather. Odd pieces of art and statues peep at you from various vistas. A garden formed with nature in mind including a tame robin. Although mice and voles can be a pain and eat new shoots so some odd barriers can be seen around some plants!
