The Holburn Beck flows through the woodland, believed to be the remains of an ancient woodland area which was previously overgrown. From November 2011 it has undergone management work, to attract a wider variety of birds, and has been underplanted with woodland plants. Work is ongoing, as it is in the garden, with espaliered apple trees started in 2012; wild flower and grass planting in 2014 around swales to take rainwater run off; herbaceous 'scarlet' border planted in 2014. Central area has herbaceous planting to follow the tulips and alliums. There is woven willow work - a willow arch, fencing and gates, plus a woven willow 'barrel' feature in the garden. A willow 'hide' was constructed on the edge of the pond in 2017. A gravel garden was planted in late 2017.
