One of Lancashire’s secret garden gems, Arabella Lennox-Boyd renowned garden designer ’s own garden at Gresgarth Hall, Caton, Lancaster is certainly worth a visit to see the extensive plant collections. The garden at Gresgarth has been the testing ground for Arabella’s design work since she moved there in 1978. Here is displayed her innate Italian style combined with her famous skills as a plantswoman. The impressive tree collection including magnolias, prunus, and also rhododendrons and azaleas are maturing - with many rare specimens, often grown from seeds collected on Arabella’s Far Eastern plant hunting trips. There is so much to see, the main gardens have herbaceous borders, terraces down to the Lake billowing with roses and shrubs, overflowing pots with novel plant combinations everywhere and the formal entrance forecourt with its topiary and statuary give way to bog and lakeside gardens, the walled kitchen garden a nuttery and orchard, the serpentine beech walk, the lilac walk and much more.
