More about Guilden Down Cottage

Facing due south at an altitude of 800 ft, we look out across the Clun Valley and down into Clun. We came here in 2003 with the express aim of designing and building a garden from scratch on a blank green canvas of almost an acre. The hedges, trees, shrubs and roses planted when we first arrived are maturing well and form the backbone of the garden. Paths, arches and walkways connect the many rooms we have created within the garden. We are passionate about nature and are delighted to have created quite a haven for local wildlife. Organic gardeners with a permacultural approach to life, we have a large decorative vegetable plot, two polytunnels and are keen composters. Many visitors to our garden say that they enjoy its quirkiness and the sense of adventure that our many rooms, views and structures create. They say too that it is a place of tranquility and calm.
