NGS to Give Away £2.6m to Beneficiary Charities

During 2010 the 3600 gardens that opened for the NGS produced net garden income for the year of £2.96m – nearly 6% up on the previous year. The great majority of gardens give all the money raised (including from teas and plant sales) directly to the NGS, a few donate a small proportion to agreed local charities.

This has enabled the NGS to make a record annual distribution of £2.6m to its beneficiary charities which are predominantly in the nursing and caring sector.

One of the major beneficiaries, Macmillan Cancer Support, is celebrating its centenary in 2011 and the NGS is extremely proud to be the largest single donor in Macmillan’s long history. The 2011 donation from NGS will take the total given to Macmillan to well over £13m.

The major distributions for 2011 are:

Macmillan Cancer Support     £550,000: Macmillan Cancer Support

Marie Curie Cancer Care     £550,000: Marie Curie Cancer Care

Help the Hospices     £450,000: Help the Hospices

Crossroads Care     £350,000: Crossroads Care
