NGS President Joe Swift, along with a garden shed full of fellow gardening presenters, embark on their new BBC2 series beginning Monday 9th December at 7pm. In each episode two presenters will champion an aspect of gardening which they believe to be threatened and which they are particularly passion about, offering hands-on, practical advice to viewers on how they can restore and look after their gardens.
Don’t miss your chance to enjoy a very special evening at Stoberry Garden, as Somerset holds its final NGS opening of 2013. The garden will be wonderfully lit up to enhance every part of the garden. Refreshments will be available and sparklers for the children too.
The first ever NGS Somerset Summer Raffle was drawn at The Yeo Valley Organic Garden on Wednesday 9 October by Jekka McVicar. Nearly 2000 tickets were sold with principle prizes generously donated by Brightwater Holidays, Ston Easton Park Hotel and Almondsbury Garden Centre. One of the finest Essex gardens opens for the final weekend of September. ‘Woodpeckers’ is tucked away on the Dengie peninsula of Essex, just outside picturesque Burnham-on Crouch. Featured in many magazines over recent years, this lovely one acre garden offers a haven for wildlife and plants alike. Open on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th September, this garden is not to be missed!
Fiona Chancellor’s award-winning garden at Windy Ridge in Shropshire will once again open for the NGS on Sunday 15th September. A delightful sight at all times of the year, plant lovers can savour a range of more than 1000 different species of plants in the garden whilst viewing some fascinating garden sculptures too.
The gardens at Ulting Wick and Spencers have both become renowned for their superb planting and designs. Ulting Wick, near Maldon has the most spectacular September display of plants and is not to be missed, whilst Spencers, a romantic, eighteenth century, walled garden is now overflowing with blooms following a superb renovation by the renowned designer, Tom Stuart-Smith.
This weekend we have 2 new gardens of very contrasting styles opening for the NGS: from a contemporary space channelling the spirit of New Zealand to a multi-level woodland garden with a stone flagged Italianate terrace.
