Open Gardens Yield Bumper Donation For Perennial
Perennial, the horticulturists’ charity, has received its largest-ever donation of £150,000 donation from the National Gardens Scheme.
Perennial has recently formally merged with sister charity the Royal Fund for Gardeners’ Children, and in 2010 the charities received a combined amount of £98,000 from the NGS. The £52,000 increase in the donation will fund one of Perennial’s caseworkers for more than a year, during which time they would be providing help, advice and support for around 200 horticulturists, partners and children who are experiencing hardship or a crisis in their lives.
Perennial’s Chairman, Sir Roger Singleton, said: “I would like to pass on our sincere thanks to the NGS, their volunteers and garden owners for the wonderful work they do. As our largest single donation in the whole of Perennial’s 172-year history, it will make a significant impact and on the services we are able to provide for the horticulturists and horticulturists’ children who are very often facing desperate circumstances when they turn to Perennial for help.”
