National Gardens Scheme Featured Content

Head of Marketing

£45-55k

The National Gardens Scheme is the UK’s leading charity that organises opening gardens to the public. Since 1927 the NGS has been raising funds which are donated annually to nominated nursing and caring charities. The total donated to these charities is now more than £40m. The organisation is widely known through its annually published ‘Yellow Book’ which details over 3,800 gardens across England and Wales.

Currently the NGS donates around £2.5m to the nominated beneficiaries which include Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Help the Hospices and Carers Trust. Increasing annual distributions is the principle strategic aim of the organisation.

We have ambitious plans to build on our heritage and fundraising potential. As a result we have created a new role of Head of Marketing to lead raising awareness of the National Gardens Scheme and attracting new audiences. Using their proven experience the successful candidate will bring strategic focus and dynamism to the marketing and communication functions of our organisation. They will be energetic and innovative, grasping the challenge of marketing a gardening organisation that supports nursing and caring so as to grow the charity’s reputation and impact.

This will involve managing the strategic relationship between digital (including social) and print media, maximising relationships with sponsors and other commercial partners, and working closely with the Head of Operations and Development to grow the fundraising potential of garden openings.

The ideal candidate will bring experience of creating and enhancing brand awareness to attract new garden visitors and supporters of all kinds. A person of stature, they will have flair and the ability to inspire staff and volunteers alike with a marketing vision for a nationally important charity. The role could be filled by a person on either a parttime or full-time basis.
