There is much more to many
NGS gardens than meets the
eye.

Our garden openings are well-known for delicious home-made teas enjoyed in the tranquil atmosphere of a beautiful private garden. There are also nearly 200 gardens offering evening visits where you can unwind with a glass of wine after a hard day’s work and soak up the ambience of a summer garden at twilight.

Look out for music, art and entertainment on offer at NGS openings. Parkwood Road in Dorset, Kempsford Manor, Gloucestershire, Hearns House, Oxfordshire are among those offering jazz, piano and other live music. Art lovers can enjoy private exhibitions, for example at Acre End, Leicestershire, and at Champs Hill, Sussex. Sculpture exhibitions bring artistic interest to hundreds of our gardens, with work by many famous sculptors adding structure and character to the garden vista.   Visit Ilmington Gardens in Warwickshire and you can even enjoy local morris dancing and at Bettisfield Hall, Wrexham, apple pressing, BBq and Trctor Rally are on offer.  In Derby, the Littleover Lane Allotment Association has achieved funding for a museum and visitor centre, rebuilt from a 1920’s greenhouse.

Games and quizzes are also on hand at gardens where enterprising owners know that it’s good to keep the children busy and entertained and there may also be a garden near you that holds quizzes for adults.

Plant sales have always been popular with our visitors over the years offering that special opportunity to acquire something different and a permanent memory of your visit. Look out too for fresh home-made produce alongside the plant table available at bargain prices. To find out more about any of these events or to search for other activities in gardens in your area go to GardenFinder.
