Queens Nursing Institute

Supporting Nurses - Changing People's Lives

This year, the Queen’s Nursing Institute celebrates 120 years of support for community nursing. Since 1887 the role of the community nurse has evolved to meet the needs of an ever-changing society, though throughout this period there has been one constant: the care and dedication of community nursing professionals.

To the QNI, no one is more important than today's generation of community nurses who are fulfilling one of the most challenging roles in modern healthcare.

We are dedicated to their support and to the well being of their patients - who include some of the most vulnerable members of society.

Through our awards programmes we promote best practice and innovation in primary care by providing professional and financial assistance for community nursing projects. In recent years we’ve funded over a hundred nurse-led projects across England and Wales that range from tackling childhood obesity to improving the quality of life for sufferers of dementia.

The Queen's Nursing Institute is not only concerned with the support of community nurses still playing an active part in the workforce. Through our welfare service we aim to provide a practical lifeline for community nurses who, through illness infirmity or age, are unable to work. Usually the nurses we help have spent their working lives devoted to the patients in their care.

The QNI has enjoyed a close relationship with the NGS over the years and we are proud to be able to celebrate 80 years of working together. Without the generosity of the NGS we would not be able to continue our important work as champion and supporter of nurses in the community.
