Crossroads Caring For Carers

Anyone can become a carer. Carers can be of any age, gender
or background.

Usually looking after a relative or friend who cannot manage without their help because of illness, disability or frailty. There are 6 million carers in the UK, they are all unpaid.

At Crossroads we understand the impact that becoming a carer has on people’s lives – looking after someone can be rewarding, but also stressful and costly. Many carers give up work or may lose their social life. We also know that carers say a break from their caring responsibilities is vital and can help them to continue to care.

Our work supports services for carers and the people they care for across the network of schemes in England and Wales. In 2005/6 Crossroads – Caring for Carers provided over 4.5 million hours of care and support to over 35,000 carers.

Providing services that carers trust and that help them to continue to care is Crossroads’ aim.

Ms LW

I have 2 special needs children and am a single mum. The service that Crossroads offers allows me much needed time out to either go shopping – which is very difficult with the boys, or to catch up on sleep. The staff are very caring, fun to be around and are a really good with the children.

Crossroads supported: 2,499 children under 10 and 2,686 children Under 19

“I have been through the crushing experience of caring for a chronically sick & paralysed parent. I know how desperate is the need for help for Carers’ respite, so CROSSROADS is a charity close to my heart. It gives a chance of a life, to those stricken with the illness of a loved one. I salute the wonderful people who step into the breach, truly a lifeline.”
