North
The north of England embodies a rich tapestry of dramatic landscapes which inspired Wordsworth and Bronte, from the Cumbrian lakes and fells to the dales, wolds and moors of Yorkshire. These counties share the largest limestone pavement in Europe and a higher than average rainfall gives rise to lush verdant growth in the many and varied gardens of the region. The west coast benefits from the effects of the Gulf Stream, in this mild climate gardeners are able to grow all manner of exotic plants.
Northumberland and Durham, the least densely populated counties, are areas of historic castles, magnificent gardens with heritage around every corner and unspoilt villages in stunning landscape.
Lancashire has produced a cornucopia of breathtaking gardens on an incredibly varied landscape from the Forest of Bowland to the salt marshes of the coast and the grandeur of the West Pennine Moors.
