Further details:Chilham Castle is very much a part of the beautiful Tudor village of Chilham near Canterbury. The house was built in 1616 on the site of the ruined Castle. The terraces were laid out in the 17th century, and the famous Yew topiarys were planted in the 1880's. Quite likely Tradescant was a visitor around the time the house was built.

Capability Brown was certainly here. Extremely old Mulberry Trees and Wisteria. Stunning views across Stour valley towards Juliberrie Down; a walk around the lake takes about 25 minutes. Interesting new planting in the terrace borders. We are open (non NGS) second Tuesday of every month May to September, 10am-3pm
