Chickens ducks and guinea fowl
Disability information:Fully accessible by wheelchair after a short gravel drive
Further details:The Thatched Cottage is a Grade II listed 16c cottage in the conservation area opposite Farringdon Church. Facing south, the garden extends to 1.5 acres of extremely interesting borders with an ornamental pond and waterfall, that blend into more informal areas which include a prolific vegetable garden, fruit trees and raised beds. Beyond is a large wild area with a gypsy caravan surrounded by wild flowers and a number of superb specimen trees, including a copper beech, blue cedar and a very tall weeping silver birch. A large fenced area has various breeds of chickens, ducks and a guinea fowl. The terrace around the house has an abundance of large pots. A splendid Alitex greenhouse provides a wonderful environment for growing the many plants that you see in the garden.
Many of the trees and shrubs had become far too large but after extensive surgery they are now flourishing, and are no longer so dominant. Last year a large area was cleared and, after the construction of a pergola and a covered walk, this has been planted with over 80 roses, chosen for shape and perfume. The climbing roses all have a collection of clematis growing with them.
