Further details:Riverhill has been the home of the Rogers family since 1840. It was purchased with the express intention of creating a fine garden and there are still specimen trees dating back to those early days as well as original introduction from such plant hunters as Hooker and Robert Fortune. It is a hillside garden (unsuitable for wheelchairs with the exception of the re-designed Walled Garden) and is divided between formal terraces and naturalised woodland. The grounds extend to about 12 acres. In APRIL some specie rhododendrons are already in flower as well as the primrose meadow and drifts of daffodils. Japanese maples which are a special feature show delicate colour as they come into leaf. In MAY follow the woodland walk to find colour, scent and tranquillity. Bluebells make an excellent foil to the vibrant tones of azaleas, hybrid rhododendrons and the copper leafed maples. There are spectacular views! Between JUNE - SEPT enjoy roses on the newly renovated Rose Walk, as well as rare and unusual shrubs growing against the sheltered walls.
