Disability information:Gravel and steep paths

Further details:This garden first took shape on paper over the winter of 2001/2. Construction work, which involved excavating hundreds of tons of soil in order to create the terracing and levels, began in August 2002. Hard landscaping took nearly a year to complete, but the first planting went ahead in Spring 2003. Planting continued in phases until the Woodland Garden was created in Spring 2004.The garden soil varies from clay and flint to heavy clay. Tons of “home grown” horse manure have been dug in to improve the soil quality. This is topped up with the product of a four bin composting system; home produced wood chippings; and horse and chicken manure. The house dates back to the 17th century. Major alterations were carried out in the 18th and 21st centuries.Over 6,000 hedging plants and trees have been planted since 2001. Over 100,000 bricks were used in creating the garden hard landscaping and the outbuildings. The garden covers about 2 acres and has five distinct areas: the woodland garden; the formal lawn; the herbaceous border; the kitchen garden and the orchard. The total land area is 20 acres with about 15 acres of grazing together with woodland and wild flower meadows. Outbuildings include a custom built glasshouse, a potting shed and barns.Extensive solar energy systems were installed in 2011
