Description:Garden designed so it cannot be seen all at once. Traditional cottage garden with collection of lavenders, hostas, clematis, shrubs, ferns, gravel beds and a wildlife area Disability information:Unsuitable for wheel chairs
Further details:The garden was designed in 1997 so it cannot all be seen at once. It is situated on a south-facing slope and contains over 400 named varieties of plants. Various levels lead you around the garden with inspiration and ideas taken from the late Geoff Hamilton. Hostas have been planted surrounded by gravel creating a deterrent for snails and slugs. A collection of ferns can be found in a courtyard area set against the cottage wall. Steps lead you into the lawn area bordered by hot-coloured herbaceous beds and beyond the arbour, a herb garden. A number of deep beds have been constructed for summer vegetables. There is a wildlife pond with a collection of grasses. Two more borders are planted with cyclamen, hellebores, anemones, and bluebells for spring flowering and for summer flowering pavaves, penstemons, hemerocallis and aquilegias. A small bog garden contains a collection of primula denticulata. Gates then lead you into a lawn area with summer house. Following the paths brings you to a collection of lavenders and a rose bed surrounded by climbing roses . The path then takes you back onto the lawn and the hot bed. Alpine have been planted in a scree bed and on the bank facing the cottage. As you walk through the gate back into the formal garden you pass a heather bank
