Further details:A total of 3 acres are tended as garden this comprises a ½ acre of wildflower meadow, a ½ acre of arboretum and the remainder being water features and flower beds. The land is bordered by a stream which allows us to grow many water loving plants especially Hosta, Primula, Skunk cabbage and Gunnera there are many others giving interest and colour through the year, throughout the garden are a multitude of herbaceous perennial plants plus a large selection of climbers such as Clematis, Roses and Honeysuckle. The meadow offers the opportunity to enjoy a leisurely walk and try to count the number of different wild flowers at the end of which one can relax in the haven situated at the furthest point from the house. The Arboretum contains a variety of indigenous and other species of trees again there is seating so one can pause and relax. The remainder of the land at Rhyd (a further 2 acres is left to be cut as meadow hay at the end of the summer, a path being cut round the edges for the adventurous to explore, many wild flowers can be found here along with butterflies. The gardening of Rhyd only started seriously around 1990 all the structures, plants and trees (except those trees close to the house) have been made and planted by us we are always finding something new to do.
