St Peter's Community Garden

Cardiff

Secret garden in city suburb. Unusual combination of flower beds, raised vegetable beds and nature reserve, all created by volunteers. Features incl a large natural pond surrounded by wild plants, Welsh heritage apple trees, long herb border and wild flower meadow. This year our major attractions will be our Quiet Garden with a zen feel - water features and monoliths.

    The Garden was visited by the Princess Royal in 2012 when hedging given by the Woodland Trust was planted. The Princess Royal planted a Welsh heritage plum tree.
    We also have Welsh Heritage Apple trees.
    During our open day a video of the Grounds through the season will be shown in the adjoining Hall. Books. plants and preserves will be on sale.
    Many species of birds, butterflies,and insects can be seen around the pond and in the garden.Occasionally ducks, frogs,our resident hedgehog and a stray fox may be spotted.Spring bulbs, Summer flowers including six foot foxgloves. Examples of re-used bricks, and large raised beds.
    Large sun trap patio with seating and bespoke wooden benches in the meadow and mini orchard. Large lawn. Boule and children's Lawn games available. A Garden still evolving- Come and see our recently developed QUIET GARDEN with water feature, monoliths and planned planting and our two friendly bee hives ALL DAY mostly home-made REFRESHMENTS. Plus some craft-book browsing area, Fairtrade chocolate and wine tasting and crafting demonstrations. If its sunny there will be some music making on the patio.

    Home-made Refreshments served all day-where possible using produce from our own garden.
