Warley House Garden

Halifax

Partly walled 2½ acre garden of demolished C18 House, renovated by the present owners. Rocky paths and Japanese style planting lead to lawns and lovely S-facing views. Alpine ravine planted with ferns and fine trees give structure to the woodland area. Drifts of shrubs, herbaceous plantings, wild flowers and heathers maintain constant seasonal interest.

Rhododendrons are a main feature of the garden and to see these at their best a visit in late Spring is recommended. Other Spring flowering shrubs and bulbs such as native daffodils and bluebells add to the appearance at this time.

Japanese Garden designed by Paul Green, (senior lecturer Askham Bryan College, York.)

Children are welcome to play on the large lawned areas. On a sunny day we often put out garden games such as croquet.

Features and Attractions

This is an historic garden, renovated after total neglect from 1945 to 1995. Spring planting is enhanced by many new rhododendrons and woodland. A lengthy rockery, alpine ravine and the Japanese Garden are areas of special interest.
