Beneficiary Policy
Money raised from garden openings is donated each year to beneficiary charities nominated by the NGS Council of Trustees. Donations are governed by the Beneficiary Policy, set by Council and reviewed from time to time. The key features of the current policy are as follows:
- - NGS will continue to support national nursing, caring and gardening charities.
- - NGS supports national nursing, caring and gardening charities.
- - NGS will not actively seek additional beneficiaries.
- - The vision for the development of NGS will bring in additional income, and as and when it does, NGS will look for new Beneficiaries within the overall criteria of supporting national nursing, caring and gardening charities.
- - There is already considerable support for cancer charities, and no further cancer charities should be added to the list of Beneficiaries.
- - Currently, the NGS does not wish to support core beneficiary charities whose aim is primarily research.
Money is donated each year to the following charities:
Macmillan Cancer Support
Marie Curie Cancer Care
National Trust Careership Scheme
The Queen's Nursing Institute
Crossroads Care
Help the Hospices
Perennial (The Gardeners' Royal Benevolent Society)
The Royal Fund For Gardeners' Children
Additional charities nominated by owners - about 1,000 in total
We donate money only to charities selected by Council. We regret that we can not accept or acknowledge unsolicited applications for funds.
